Guidelines and standards

Canadian Thoracic Society (CTS) guidelines are produced under the auspices of the CTS' Canadian Respiratory Guidelines Committee (CRGC), and made available through the CRGC Web site at www.respiratoryguidelines.ca.

The CRGC is a committee that focuses on initiatives to more efficiently produce and update guidelines, ensuring that these efforts quickly translate into significant improvements in respiratory care, with the ultimate goal of optimizing management of respiratory disorders in Canada.

CRGC Aims and Goals

1. Produce high-quality respiratory guidelines in a timely manner and improve implementation

  • Update respiratory guidelines annually, while reducing the burden of the guideline development process
  • Produce a repository of Canadian and international respiratory guidelines and key-implementation initiatives (website)
  • Publish a compendium of respiratory guidelines and practice tools
  • Develop new guidelines (pulmonary vascular diseases, home mechanical ventilation for adults and children, pulmonary fibrosis, etc.)
  • Improve the quality, validity and implementability of respiratory guidelines using recognized methodological tools
  • Establish effective dissemination and implementation strategies
2. Evaluate implementation initiatives

3. Engage target audiences (multidisciplinary approach)

4. Collaborate with the National Lung Health Framework
